COMPANY
OVERVIEW
Background
Q-Flo Ltd was spun out of Cambridge University in mid 2004 to
commercialise research findings in the areas of advanced nano-enabled
materials, specifically in the area of carbon nanotube materials and
their applications. The company was financed initially by its
founders Prof Alan Windle and Dr Martin Pick.
Operationally the company is embedded within the Department of
Materials Science and Metallurgy and has negotiated a ‘soft’ pipeline
intellectual property agreement with the University.
With a portfolio approach to the market place the company is active
globally in developing its intellectual property base. At present
the focus remains sharply on the area of carbon nanotube enabled
materials.
Financing
To date the core company Q-Flo Ltd has been self financing.
Companies formed by Q-Flo to exploit specific intellectual property
opportunities will seek seed capital and additional financing from
appropriate sources.
It is anticipated that the company will successfully finance its first
‘spin-out’ venture during 2005.
Company Development
The company has established a strong board and has successful
negotiated its first intellectual property development agreement.
The formation of this first ‘spin-out’ venture will set the standard
for future progress.
In addition to building its own intellectual property portfolio Q-Flo
is actively developing its international network of contacts within the
academic and commercial communities.
Short term revenue streams are being generated through appropriately
related development contracts.
Vision
Q-Flo aims to be an international focus for academics wishing to
commercialise their intellectual property within the advanced materials
sector.
The company intends to become the creative hub for a portfolio of
ventures which are active and successful in the advanced materials
sector. It will act as the technology centre and intellectual
property manager for a network of interrelated businesses and
licensees.
